Grigoropoulos’ killing: Commemoration rallies, metro stations closed –

More than 3,000 policemen have been deployed in Athens ahead of the commemoration rallies for the anniversary of the killing of teenager boy Alexandros Grigoropoulos by a policeman on December 6th 2008.
High school and university students will hold commemoration gatherings at 12 o’ clock noon outside the Athens University in Panepistimiou Avenue.
Rallies of leftist organizations, unions and anarchists are scheduled for 5 pm and 6 pm at the same place.
Another rally has been scheduled at 9 p.m. in Exarchia district at the spot where Grigoropoulos was killed and died.
By order of police, metro station <Panepistimiou> will close to public at 3 p.m., while the metro station <Syntagma> will close as of 4:30 p.m. Both stations will open again when police thinks it is safe.
Rallies to commemorate the killing of Grigoropoulos often end in violent riots and clashes between anarchists and police.
Rallies will be held also in other Greek cities like Thessaloniki, Volos, Patras and others.
