En mars 1968, Le Droit à la ville de Henri Lefebvre paraît. Il provoque une prise de conscience dans l’histoire des idées sur la perception de la ville comme enjeu de société. Il annonce l’arrivée d’une nouvelle réalité, l’urbain, la fin de la ville industrielle et son éclatement en périphéries et banlieues. Cet article montre les prolongements et la modernité des thèses de Lefebvre : ses notions ont été largement reprises, tant au niveau national qu’international, par des praticiens de la politique de la ville et des sociologues de l’urbain, confirmant ses intuitions et ses craintes. Ce livre, par sa démarche, a également favorisé une progression dans l’appropriation de la ville et il laisse des pistes aidant à la compréhension de l’urbain aujourd’hui. La place de ce droit à la ville est une question plus que jamais d’actualité.

In March 1968 Henri Lefebvre published The Right to the City. Lefebvre was the first and one of the few who dared herald the end of the industrial town, with the development of its outskirts and suburbs, and the advent of the Urban. Lefebvre saw in the creation of this urban society new hope for the development of more favourable conditions for humanity. This paper examines the unique modernity of Lefebvre’s ideas, and the implications of his work. It demonstrates how widely his theories and arguments have been used by a variety of social and political actors, both at national and international level, from urbanists, to politicians and urban sociologists. Their work has justified the greater part of Lefebvre’s intuitions and fears, furthermore confirming that the theories he exposes in The Right to the City have been instrumental in the appropriation of the city by its inhabitants. Their work has opened new avenues for the exploration of the urban phenomenon, one of the most important issues of our day.

En marzo de 1968, El derecho a la ciudad de Henri Lefebvre es publicado. Ello provoca un cambio en la historia de las ideas relacionadas a la percepción de la ciudad vista como una cuestión clave de sociedad. Ello anuncia la llegada de una nueva realidad : lo urbano, el fin de la ciudad industrial y su desagregación en periferias y zonas conurbanas. Este artículo muestra las prolongaciones y la modernidad de las tesis de Lefebvre : sus postulados han sido continuamente retomados, tanto a nivel nacional que internacional, por los actores de la política urbana y los sociólogos de lo urbano, confirmando sus intuiciones y sus temores. El libro de Lefebvre, ha contribuido también en la evolución de la apropiación de la ciudad, otorgando pistas de comprensión de lo urbano actual. El tema de un derecho a la ciudad es más que nunca una cuestión de actualidad.
