Grecia: scontri ad Atene, molotov contro polizia a piazza Syntagma

(ASCA-AFP) – Atene, 26 set – Violenti scontri sono scoppiati in queste ore nella popolare piazza Syntagma di Atene, nei pressi del Parlamento ellenico, tra agenti antisommossa e manifestanti scesi in piazza per protestare contro il nuovo piano di austerity varato dal governo greco.
Un corrispondente dell’Afp presente sul posto descrive ”un gruppo di uomini incappucciati” intenti a lanciare ”bombe molotov” contro un cordone della polizia dispiegato nella zona, che a ua volta sta sparando gas lacrimogeni e granate stordenti con lo scopo di disperdere la folla.

Sciopero generale in Grecia, scontri ad Atene
La Grecia si ferma per 24 ore per il più grande sciopero generale dall’insediamento del governo Samaras.
Ad Atene almeno 50mila persone si sono radunate nei pressi del parlamento per protestare contro gli ulteriori tagli alla spesa pubblica pari a oltre 11,5 miliardi di euro, necessari per sbloccare la tranche da 31 miliardi del prestito concesso dalla troika.
“Le misure decise dal governo sono inaccettabili – sostiene un manifestante ad Atene – le persone devono capire che senza la lotta non otterremo nulla, siamo in un vicolo cieco”.
“Stiamo contribuendo nel nostro piccolo ad una lotta che andrà avanti – dice Irini, un’impiagata della capitale – è una lotta che continuerà fino a quando il sistema sarà stato rovesciato”.

RT – A rally in the Greek capital turned violent when protesters in Syntagma Square lobbed Molotov cocktails at police, who retaliated by firing tear gas at the demonstrators.
Security forces also reportedly used flashbang grenades and pepper spray to push protesters back from the parliament building. According to Greek newspaper Kathimerin, the police had been ordered to orders to refrain from using chemicals against protesters.
It’s as thousands gathered in front of parliament for the country’s biggest anti-austerity protest since the new government came to power.
Clashes erupted in different parts of Athens Syntagma Square, with demonstrators throwing fire bombs at police.
Witnesses reported smoke rising over the square as security forces dispersed most of the protesters. Some remained, and continued the demonstration; others relocated.
Athens police have arrested five protesters so far, local media report. The arrests come after members of the radical leftist party Syriza clashed with riot police in the streets of Panepistimiou and Benaki, in the capital’s downtown district. Police reportedly again used stun grenades to disperse the hooded youths.
The general strike halted transit and other industries nationwide. As many as 350,000 Greeks have poured out into streets across the country, estimates the civil servants union ADEDY.
