Game of Thrones the TV show : total deaths 133 ,per ora – Game of Thrones e Monty Python

The deadliest character in Game of Thrones may surprise you

Warning: Spoilers abound herein

Fans of Game of Thrones the TV show and George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series will have learned to accept that you should only believe what you see on the screen, or read on the page.

What that in mind, and with the UK premiere of the fifth season of the HBO show on Sky Atlantic on Monday, here’s a comprehensive breakdown of all the on-screen deaths of named characters we’ve witnessed since the show began (ie, largely ignoring the Battle of the Blackwater or deaths we hear about but do not see).

There have been 133 confirmed kills, with season four actually the deadliest, 116 of them men and 17 women.

The most common way to die in Westeros, or Essos, is during a swordfight, with 13 characters dying this way, and 10 by the bow.

The deadliest character is actually a tie, between Jaime Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen, with five kills each, while Jon Snow has killed four people.

The Great House with the most to mourn meanwhile? The Lannisters, with six family members killed, although the four members of House Stark who have died were all senior members of the family.

Cosa ne pensi di Game of Hyrule?

“Game of Thrones’ secret Monty Python references: What’s the Low Valyrian for ‘I fart in your general direction’?

Bloodthirsty HBO series Game of Thrones might take itself quite seriously as it barrels from massacre to wedding-based massacre, but that hasn’t stopped its creators from including some hidden jokes.

It turns out that a famous exchange between characters in one of the programme’s “constructed languages” is actually a series of Monty Python quotes.

When, in season four, a Meereenese rider challenges Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) champion her translator Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) gives a more polite version of their war of words.

What the rider is actually saying in Low Valyrian is the Frenchman’s insults in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, such as “I fart in your general direction!”

Other choice insults include: “Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries. You don’t frighten us, English pig-dogs! Go boils your bottoms, son of a silly person!

And, “I wave my private parts at your aunties!”

David J Peterson used the handful of words and phrases in George R R Martin’s fantasy-novel series as a starting point to create three languages which have taken more than four years to perfect.

He says it was series creator Dan Weiss’ idea to inject secret Monty Python references  and “it was so hilarious that I had to do it.”

Peterson also uses the languages to send messages to his other half. “My wife has a word in every language,” he reveals. “Her name is Erin, which is the basis for ‘kind’  in Dothraki. My cat’s name is Keli and the word for ‘cat’ in High Valyrian is ‘kēli.’

He has created three languages for the show: Low Valyrian, High Valyrian and Dothraki.

The latter is far and away Peterson’s best-known “conlang” (constructed language, for goodness’ sake don’t call it “made up”) and there are more than 3,400 words in the Dothraki dictionary
