Ferguson.

Missouri Governor Issues Executive Order Declaring  Activates National Guard

By Mike Sawyer on November 17, 2014

Ferguson, MO — As Ferguson residents and the rest of the world alike await the decision of the grand jury on whether or not Darren Wilson will be charged in the killing of Mike Brown, tensions rise with a breaking decision from the governor’s office.

As of 2:00 pm central, governor Jay Nixon has issued Executive Order 14-14, declaring a state of emergency in Missouri.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JEREMIAH W. (JAY) NIXON, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Laws of the State of Missouri, including Sections 44.010 through 44.130, RSMo, do hereby declare a State of Emergency exists in the State of Missouri.

This decision is based on the opinion of governor Nixon that there will be violence regardless of the grand jury’s decision.

WHEREAS, regardless of the outcomes of the federal and state criminal investigations, there is the possibility of expanded unrest; and

WHEREAS, the State of Missouri will be prepared to appropriately respond to any reaction to these announcements; and

WHEREAS, our citizens have the right to peacefully assemble and protest and the State of Missouri is committed to protecting those rights; and

WHEREAS, our citizens and businesses must be protected from violence and damage;

Governor Nixon has called to order the Missouri State Highway Patrol together with the St. Louis County Police Department and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department to operate as a “Unified Command” to protect civil rights and ensure public safety in the City of Ferguson and the St. Louis region.

The Unified Command, according to the EO, is tasked with such operational controls over security as well as the protection of civil rights and will be able to exercise ‘operational authority’ over these areas.

The order goes on to state that the National Guard has also been activated to respond to Ferguson.

I further order, pursuant to Section 41.480, RSMo, the Adjutant General of the State of Missouri, or his designee, to forthwith call and order into active service such portions of the organized militia as he deems necessary to protect life and property and assist civilian authorities and it is further directed that the Adjutant General or his designee, and through him, the commanding officer of any unit or other organization of such organized militia so called into active service take such action and employ such equipment as may be necessary to carry out requests processed through the Missouri State Highway Patrol and ordered by the Governor of the state to protect life and property and support civilian authorities.

The order is issued and stands active for the next 30 days.

Two weeks ago the Free Thought Project reported on the influx of armored vehicles into the area. Today we reported on the hundreds of DHS vehicles spotted at a local Drury Inn, and the subsequent firing of the veteran who discovered it.

The recent threats from the KKK to shoot protesters, coupled with the likelihood of civil unrest in the area and this recent Executive Order, paints an ominous outlook for the town of Ferguson, Missouri.

Here at the Free Thought Project we abhor the initiation of violence and feel that it will not lead to any beneficial progress. We do not condone those who would damage the property of others or enact violence against peaceful people. This goes for the police as well as the would be rioters.

We will have reporter Cassandra Rules on the ground this afternoon, along with live streamer Jon Ziegler bringing you the latest updates out of Ferguson.
